Diversity

Our commitment to diversity extends beyond our philosophy and into our everyday business practices – including the people we employ. We recognize that diverse characteristics and talent enhance our ability to provide quality service to our clients and the communities we serve, which is why our attorneys represent individuals of varying race, culture, gender and sexual orientation.

Our targeted and sustained efforts to recruit and hire a diverse workforce include participation in a variety of programs. Our current president, Jim Davidson, serves as chair of the Managing Partners Diversity Initiative in Central Ohio, a joint effort by the Columbus Bar Association, the John Mercer Langston Bar Association – which is comprised primarily of African American attorneys – and area law schools to increase racial diversity among all Columbus-area law firms.

SZD also participates in the Columbus Bar Association's Minority Clerkship Program, which was co-founded by former SZD president Benjamin Zox and has been replicated by bar associations across the country.

Additionally, SZD seeks to promote the professional development of all women attorneys in the firm, create a positive and supportive environment for female lawyers, enhance their economic viability and distinguish and elevate their individual and collective visibility and community involvement.
