Publication: Life Sciences, A Publication of the American Health Lawyers Association April 1, 2009 Author: T. Earl LeVere, Amy Tulk and David Kopans

Stem Cells and the Controversy

The controversy over human embryonic stem cell research has raged for nearly a decade. The religious, emotional, and ethical storm centers around a microscopic subject matter that researchers believe holds the key to treating a wide variety of diseases, including many that have been untreatable heretofore.

This article also covers the Bush Administration's historical policy on stem cell research, congressional attempts to overturn this policy, presidential campaign positions, President Obama's first 100 days and resulting impacts on stem cell research, loosened restrictions, patent law and stem cell research and state law and stem cell research.
